Overview — Secure, Compliant, and Built for Scale
Ledger Desktop is the official application for connecting Ledger Nano X and Nano S Plus devices to your desktop. It combines hardware-backed private key isolation with an enterprise-focused UX: multi-account views, exportable transaction histories, and clear firmware management. The desktop environment enables teams to perform secure approvals, maintain audit trails, and adhere to internal compliance procedures without exposing private keys to internet-exposed systems.
Primary Use Cases
- Corporate treasury management and cold storage workflows
- Secure signing for trading desks and institutional transfers
- Audit-ready record keeping and firmware management
- Integration with hardware-based approval flows for DeFi and token operations
Enterprise Benefits
Private keys never leave the Ledger device; transactions require physical confirmation on the device.
Exportable logs and transaction history simplify reconciliation and reporting for finance teams.
Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux with consistent UX and centralized update flows.
Support for multiple ledgers and concurrent sessions for segmented access control and operational separation.
How It Works
Download the Ledger Desktop installer from the official Ledger site, connect your Ledger Nano device via USB or Bluetooth (Nano X), and use the desktop UI to install blockchain apps, manage accounts, and approve transactions. All signing operations are confirmed on the hardware device, meaning the desktop acts as a secure interface—never a key holder.
Security & Best Practices
Ledger Desktop is designed to complement best-practice custody procedures: maintain physical separation for seed storage, apply multi-person approval for high-value transfers, keep firmware updated, and use the official Ledger channels for downloads and support.
